The determination of any treatment plan is a dynamic and collaborative process that involves you, your primary therapist, and Riverbird clinicians, in order to meet your individual goals and needs. A person’s unique circumstances and symptom presentation will guide our treatment plan recommendations, which will be adapted based on an individual’s response to treatment. It usually ranges between 2-6 medicine sessions; some people return for more than one “arc” of treatment; sometimes there is a combination of individual and group KAT.
The individual KAT process includes the following:
initial KAP interest email
screening, initial intake with psychiatrist
two or more preparation sessions
medicine sessions
and integration sessions after each medicine session
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) is an innovative approach that uses the psychoactive medicine Ketamine, in combination with various methods of guidance and therapy to catalyze healing. It is an integrative and holistic modality with a growing body of evidence supporting its efficacy in treating depression, anxiety, trauma and substance use disorders, among other conditions. It utilizes the rapid antidepressant and psychedelic properties of Ketamine as a tool to reduce symptoms, access insights and compassion, while connecting to our felt experiences and truths. It supports a journey of healing, finding wholeness and connecting with our most authentic selves. It can also provide a unique opportunity to process past trauma and emotional wounding, which can result in improved relationships and a richer connection with one’s own human experience.
Integration is an integral part of a psychedelic journey, which Riverbird weaves into our treatment. This process is ongoing and emergent, using various approaches and therapeutic modalities to support the deepening of insights, feelings or experiences gleaned from a psychedelic journey and helps to weave them into daily life. The immediate period of increased neuroplasticity and neurogenesis that follows a ketamine session is a powerful opportunity to reflect, identify and break unhealthy patterns of thinking or behaving, and to invite cognitive and behavioral changes that promote a sense of health and wellbeing. This can catalyze lasting changes in how we relate to ourselves and others that can improve quality of life.
